There's this new position in our company that I'm trying to get into and I was thinking of what topic to present on the demo that's required.
Just turns out that my husband, a musician, asked me to make him a site where other musicians could view him and see his experiences or resume. While I was doing research on where to put this site, it came upon me that this could be a very good topic to do a demo on -- How to Create a Website. I became very excited and it really was great that I could accomplish two things while I was at it.
So, here I am, testing out different sites, (of course, I limited myself to free sites), and see what they could host and what their site could showcase.
My husband needed to show his experiences. So that would translate into which site could best present photos and videos. Yes, I was aiming for a more VISUAL site, in this case. That would be the best way to present my husband. He needed a site where, if he needed to could show his resume in words, but most importantly could show the numerous bands he's been with and the places he's been to and videos to show his talents; after all a picture paints a thousand words and God knows how many of those a video would say.
OK, great. I had a plan and vision of what the site should look like. But where to put it? I know the familiar ones like Blogger, Google sites, Wordpress but not really what I had in mind. I needed it, sort of , glossy. (and again FREE).
And then, it found me. Wix.com! Wow, this was perfect for what I had in mind. It was FREE. It was GLOSSY. And it wasn't so hard that I'd have to use some outside app to build the site. They had many templates to choose from and as they say, you could go and "grab it as your own."
I did it! I made the site and to be honest, I was feeling, kind of smug about it. I proudly presented it to my husband and he said he'd like it. (Well, he wouldn't have know the difference if I've set his site up on a blog platform like this one. He would have been OK just the same.
So, why am I on this site again and doing a blog? Well, Wix.com for all it's perfections, is really not ideal when you want to publish some things that's more of a journal-type, information, kind of, site. A blog is best for showcasing that.
I tried setting up accounts on different sites and this is one of them. I find this easiest to manipulate and it's and honestly, it's the domain name that got me signed up. It was short and common; something you'd want to consider so you'd be easy to find on the web.
